IELTS 5.5 or ELICOS equivalent and overseas qualification successfully completed Year 12.

or Successfully Completed EAL IV or EAP 1 (intermediate) and Overseas qualification successfully completed Year 12.

or  Successfully completed Year 12 from Australia.

English Courses Academic Entry Requirements

Entry Requirements

General English (GE) Elementary to Upper intermediate

• Age 18 or over 

• Must be able to speak and write a few basic words in English

English for Academic Purposes (EAP) Intermediate to Advanced

• Age 18 or over

• Evidence of an Intermediate level of English or higher.

Certificate I in EAL (Access)

• A participant’s current English language skills. (The listening and Speaking and Reading and Writing units in the Framework will provide the basis for initial assessment processes and placement of participants at the appropriate proficiency level)

 • A participant prior formal education experience, both overseas and in Australia. Year 11 or Year 12 equivalent to Australian qualification

Certificate II in EAL (Access)

• A participant’s current English language skills. (The listening and Speaking and Reading and Writing units in the Framework will provide the basis for initial assessment processes and placement of participants at the appropriate proficiency level)

 • A participant prior formal education experience, both overseas and in Australia. Year 11 or 12 equivalent to Australian Qualification. 

• Any prior EAL learning

Certificate III in EAL (Further Study)

• A participant’s current English language skills. (The listening and Speaking and Reading and Writing units in the Framework will provide the basis for initial assessment processes and placement of participants at the appropriate proficiency level) 

• A participant prior formal education experience, both overseas and in Australia. Year 11 or 12 equivalent to Australian Qualification. 

• Any prior EAL learning

Certificate IV in EAL (Further Study)

• Entry requirements for this qualification, is usual for learners to own or have read access to a computer and a willingness to learn and having ISLPR level 2+/3. EIE EAL placement test will be conducted to evaluate the level of English at entering into course


Students please note that Empire Institute of Education conducts LLN test and English test as well to assess the skills and knowledge of the learner. If LLN skills of the learner is not found as required, EIE provide the extra support and resources for free of cost. EIE does not not recruit students under 18 years of age.


Age Requirements

For international students Empire institute of Education has a requirement that all students must be over 18 years of age at the commencement of course. Empire will not recruit any under 18 age international student.

LLN TEST

Empire Institute of Education will conduct LLN entry test on the Orientation day. It is usual for all learners to do LLN test on orientation day to assess their Language, Literacy and Numeracy level. Low level of LLN is not barrier to get admission in the qualification. EIE will provide extra resources and support for learner having low level of LLN. (For detail refer to student support policy and procedures)

Students Visa Requirement (for International Students)

You must provide evidence that satisfies the assessment factors applicable to you to Department of Immigration and Border Protection(DIBP).to be granted a student visa. Assessment factors include your financial ability, English proficiency, likely compliance with the conditions of your visa and any other matters considered relevant to assessing your application.Additional information on student visa issues is available on DIBP website on: https://www.border.gov.au/ and the Study in Australia web site: https://www.studyinaustralia.gov.au/

Students Currently in Australia (for International Students)

Prospective international students who are currently enrolled with another registered provider can apply for entry to a course at the Institute. In accordance with Standard 7 of National Code 2007 and ESOS Act 2000, they must have completed six months of their study in principal course of study with their previous registered provider by the time of commencement. The Institute will not knowingly enrol a student who has not completed this requirement.
